Hatchbuck "First Buck Stories" Put Spotlight on Entrepreneurs and What Inspires Them
ST. LOUIS --(Business Wire)--
Hatchbuck,
sales and marketing software for small business, is celebrating
entrepreneurship and the importance of community by launching "First
Buck Stories," a social movement leading up to the 2014 Global
Entrepreneurship Week. "First Buck Stories" will help entrepreneurs
reflect on their successes and be motivated by others to finish the race
toward their dream.
Hatchbuck is looking for businesses to record and share video stories of
how they made their first dollar as a snapshot of their journey as
entrepreneurs.
To get the ball rolling, Hatchbuck has produced five videos to inspire
other entrepreneurs to record their own video. Jim McKelvey, co-founder
of Square, Jonathan Ortmans, president of Global Entrepreneurship Week,
Stacy & Todd Isermann, founders of STL Rent a Box (News - Alert), and Hatchbuck's own
CEO and co-founder Don Breckenridge talk about the first dollar they
made. Julia Kauffman, daughter of Ewing Kauffman, adds to the discussion
by remembering her father, founder of the Kauffman Foundation, and his
passion for entrepreneurship.
Hatchbuck is committed to the needs of small businesses, many of which
lack the resources in their early days. These entrepreneurs could use a
community like "First Buck Stories" to encourage and help them grow.
"Looking back, that first buck is a pivotal point for a business. It's
the validation of an idea you worked on," says Don Breckenridge,
Hatchbuck CEO and co-founder. "But as entrepreneurs we are better at
looking forward than reflecting on what we've done. It's why we wanted
to showcase these stories. Others can learn from those who've gone
before, share in those successes, and keep moving forward."
Highlights from the first buck videos include:
"…the textbook for the class was terrible. I was frustrated by
this so I decided I'd write a better textbook." -Jim McKelvey

"It all began when I was 13 years old. I went on vacation and
worked in a stamp store and I realized my first lesson: that you
could buy things for one price and sell them for another." -Jonathan
Ortmans

"It was just me and the guy in charge of the (networking) meeting.
I explained to him the concept and he instantly ordered 25 boxes
right off the bat." -Todd Isermann

"It's an interesting story on how he started his own business. He
worked for another pharmaceutical company. He did so well in his
territory that the president cut back his territory. My father
quit and said 'I'm going to start a company where that never
happens.'" -Julia Kauffman
