Sidley Continues L.A. Expansion With Addition of Top Trial Lawyer and Leading Consumer Protection Partner
Sidley
Austin LLP is pleased to announce that Chad Hummel, a Fellow of the
American College of Trial Lawyers, and Clayton S. Friedman, former
senior counsel for the National Association of Attorneys General, are
joining the firm as partners. Mr. Hummel will be a member of Sidley's
litigation practice and serve as a co-leader of the firm's new trial
practice initiative. Mr. Friedman, who handles high-profile multistate
investigations, will join the firm's regulatory practice.
"Chad's strong reputation and deep experience as a trial lawyer in some
of the nation's most high-profile cases make him an exciting addition to
our firm," said Carter Phillips, chairman of the firm's Executive
Committee. "Clay brings a multistate attorney general and consumer
regulatory practice to Sidley that is a powerful addition to Sidley's
leading consumer regulatory and litigation experience. They are dynamic
and highly respected lawyers whose talent and skill will add immediate
value to our client relationships."
Mr. Hummel is a highly regarded trial lawyer with extensive experience
representing clients in bet-the-company litigation cases involving
antitrust, intellectual property, advertising and marketing, unfair
competition, and government investigations and prosecutions. For over 20
years, he has been lead trial counsel in some of the nation's most
high-profile civil and criminal cases and has litigated numerous matters
in the entertainment and digital media, video game, sports, and
telecommunications industries. At his prior firm, he had been the chair
of the national litigation division and of firm-wide strategic
development. At Sidley, he will help anchor the irm's preeminent trial
practice in California and nationally.
Mr. Friedman has decades of experience leading national teams
representing clients before federal and state agencies and departments,
including the Federal Trade Commission and all 50 of the State Attorneys
General. He negotiates resolutions and litigates multistate regulatory,
consumer protection and antitrust matters, as well as e-commerce cases
related to advertising, marketing, privacy and regulatory issues
affecting Internet marketing and sales. Mr. Friedman previously served
as director of multistate litigation of the Missouri Attorney General,
and chief counsel and director of business regulation for the National
Association of Attorneys General in Washington, D.C. He will join and
augment a national team at Sidley that includes other top former
government regulatory and enforcement lawyers and with his addition,
this powerful group will offer clients the full spectrum of services
required in the current, highly complex consumer regulatory environment.
"We are excited to welcome Chad and Clay to our rapidly growing team of
top-tier lawyers in Los Angeles," said Mike Kelley, co-managing partner
of Sidley's Los Angeles office and member of the firm's Executive
Committee. "Their arrival follows closely several recent additions in
Los Angeles, including Dan Clivner and Matt Thompson in Century City and
Joel Rothstein in our downtown Los Angeles office."
"Chad and Clay are well-known and respected lawyers in the community and
nationally, and will be dynamic additions to our talented team here in
Los Angeles," said Dan Clivner, co-managing partner of Sidley's Los
Angeles office. "We look forward to drawing from their tremendous
knowledge and experiences in advising our clients facing the types of
complex cases that are right in Chad and Clay's wheelhouse."
