Simply Hired Reports U.S. Job Listings Decreased 0.65% in September 2015
Simply
Hired, the largest independent job search engine with properties in
24 countries and 12 languages, today released its Simply
Hired U.S. Employment Outlook for September 2015. The report
analyzes Simply Hired's comprehensive index of millions of online job
listings in every occupation to provide detailed insight into national
and local job trends. According to the latest findings, nationwide job
listings dipped 0.65% between August 2015 and September 2015. Job growth
remains strong and broad-based, with the exception of hospitality, which
saw a 5% decline in job listings over this one-month period.
Transportation continues to offer significant opportunities for job
seekers. The sector generated 355,520 U.S. job listings in September
2015 - an increase of 20% from the same time last year. Nationwide,
transportation accounts for 7.54% of all job openings. The U.S. cities
with the highest concentration of transportation job openings include St.
Louis, MO (14.62%), Cleveland-Akron,
OH (14.00%), Chicago,
IL (12.61%), Pittsburgh,
PA (11.38%), and Philadelphia,
PA (10.14%).
Transportation jobs most in demand by employers include truck
drivers (297,922 job openings), taxi
drivers & chauffeurs (9,973), delivery
service drivers (6,678), forklift
operators (3,545), and bus
drivers (2,572). While truck drivers dominate job opportunities in
the sector (84% of available jobs), no transportation vertical is more
closely watched than taxi drivers, as companies like Uber
and Lyft
continue to disrupt traditional business practices. According to Simply
Hired data, Uber and Lyft outpace traditional taxi companies by nearly
20:1 when it comes to job opening for drivers.
Looking forward, delivery service driver roles are set to increase
significantly as employers ramp for seasonal hiring. Simply Hired's data
for the past two years show that delivery job openings increase slightly
in September (2.47%) and skyrocket in October (42.86%). This year,
delivery driver listings are on track with a 2.96% increase in September
2015 and a large gain expected for October.
"Job openings dipped 0.65% in September 2015 although the overall U.S.
labor market remains strong with more than 4.7 million job openings as
compared to 3.9 million this time last year," said James Beriker,
President and CEO of Simply Hired. "Our data shows an abundance of jobs
in the transportation sector, in particular for truck drivers which are
very difficult roles to fill. Other notable trends include the rise of
Uber and Lyft when it comes to hiring taxi drivers, as well as early
signs that this holiday will offer as many, if not more, opportunities
for delivery drivers."
The Simply
Hired U.S. Employment Outlook also provides comprehensive data on
job openings, growth and employers by U.S. metro. Key findings include:
-
Major metros split between losses and gains. Job openings
increased in 12 of the top 25 largest U.S. metros in September 2015. Seattle,
WA posted the largest gain in the nation with 4.08%

Diapers.com,
Microsoft,
Swedish
Health Services, and Providence
Health Services rank as the Seattle employers with the most job
openings. Other metros with strong September 2015 growth include Sacramento,
CA (2.78%) and Detroit,

openings in September 2015 with 1.27% month-over-month growth. The

service drivers ($27,000), taxi
