Deluxe Corporation Names Finalists in $500,000 Small Business Revolution on Main Street Revitalization Project

Today, Deluxe Corporation announced the finalists for the company's Small Business Revolution (News - Alert) - Main Street project, a contest where one lucky small town will win a $500,000 revitalization.

Launched in January, Deluxe received nearly 10,000 nominations in less than three weeks from small towns representing all 50 states. Small Business Revolution - Main Street nominations were narrowed down to selected finalists which are featured in mini-documentaries at SmallBusinessRevolution.org. This week, during National Small Business Week, the public is invited to vote for their favorite to receive the half million dollar influx from Deluxe.

"Nowhere are small businesses more important - or more under siege - than in small towns throughout America," explained Amanda Brinkman, chief brand and communications officer for Deluxe. "In sharing small business stories from across the country, the Small Business Revolution sparked a real conversation about how much Americans love their small towns and how important locally-owned businesses are to the economy."

Deluxe debuted the Small Business Revolution in 2015 to celebrate a century of providing marketing and other services to small businesses and financial institutions. In telling 100 stories from 100 small businesses across the country, Deluxe found a need to celebrate small towns by providing one lucky community with a $500,000 boost. Joined by dynamic entrepreneur and television celebrity Robert Herjavec, Deluxe will capture and showcase the winning town's transformation in a new web series debuting in the fall of 2016 on SmallBusinessRevolution.org.

"The nominations we received were compelling, passionate and sometimes, heart-breaking. It is humbling to see the connection and love Americans have for their small towns," Herjavec said. "Small-business owners in small towns across America are the cornerstone of their communities and the backbone of our national economy. The Small Business Revolution - Main Street project will capture the trueessence of community bonds that towns have with their small businesses."

Deluxe, with the help of Herjavec, unveiled the short-form documentaries on May 3, providing a glimpse into the businesses in each community and how the $500,000 revitalization could benefit their town. The public is invited to watch the documentaries and vote for their favorite finalist at SmallBusinessRevolution.org. The finalists are:

  • Silverton, Oregon - Serving as the gateway to Oregon's largest state park, Silverton is surrounded by natural beauty and is home to a large botanical garden. The historic district has twice been hit with damaging fires - but the downtown business district is gaining momentum, featuring an array of shops and restaurants that are working to reinvigorate the city's core. The unique expertise and support of the Small Business Revolution could be exactly what is needed to take the community to the next level.
  • Wabash, Indiana - This inspiring small town, which was the first electrically lighted city in the world, has not lost its spark. But it has taken a hit from urban sprawl, which has drawn businesses and workers out of downtown, and a diminishing industrial base that has altered the local economy. Wabash's tight-knit community and independent small-business owners have banded together in a concerted effort to revitalize their downtown core - and the Small Business Revolution could help re-illuminate Wabash as a shining destination for tourists and residents alike.

The public vote is open from May 3-10, and each person who votes will have a chance to win a trip for two to the winning town and a meet and greet with Herjavec. The process of the town's revitalization will be documented in a web series debuting on SmallBusinessRevolution.org in the fall of 2016.

In 2015, in conjunction with its 100th anniversary, Deluxe created the Small Business Revolution, showcasing 100 small businesses from across the country in mini-documentaries and photo essays. In addition, Deluxe produced a longer-form Small Business Revolution documentary film about the strength of small businesses that led the U.S. economy out of the Great Recession. Learn more at SmallBusinessRevolution.org.
