MedCircle's Launch of First Digital Network App for Health Education and Engagement Marks a Paradigm Shift

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 18, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Health education startup MedCircle today launched a new digital networking platform that offers greater engagement between healthcare providers (HCPs) and patients, family members and others interested in a specific health topic. The company launched the digital network at www.medcircle.com, where a MedCircle app is also available for iOS and Android devices.

"We are leading a paradigm shift in healthcare today by using the principles of social networking to better connect consumers to HCPs," said MedCircle CEO and co-founder Dr. Kapil Gupta. "By applying mobile and social networking technology, we are helping providers grow their ability to securely engage and inform consumers, while improving patient satisfaction and outcomes. And we are allowing consumers to better engage with providers in an unprecedented way."

Both HCPs and consumers are engaging more with social media as an effective tool to improve health education. Research by Mediabistro, a digital marketing firm, indicated that more than 40 percent of consumers say that informaion found via social media affects the way they deal with their health. And two-thirds of doctors use social media for professional purposes, often preferring an open forum as opposed to a physician-only online community, according to research by EMR Thoughts, an online site for HCPs.

MedCircle was created by leading healthcare professionals and technologists to give those seeking information on health topics a way to tap into content they can trust. MedCircle also provides an easy, secure way for doctors, therapists and other credentialed healthcare providers to engage with patients, patient advocates and interested consumers.

HCPs can use MedCircle to strengthen relationships with existing patients and patient advocates,  grow their brand awareness and reputation and establish new revenue streams. Members can use MedCircle as a simple way to stay up-to-date on health topics they are most concerned about—with information that has been vetted by the professional community.

"Unlike other social media platforms, we have made privacy a priority at MedCircle," Dr. Gupta said.  "You don't need to tell anyone what health topics you are following and which healthcare providers you are following. We strongly believe one's health interests are private and have made sure MedCircle does that."

How It Works
MedCircle brings consumers and healthcare providers together to share verified healthcare information on a private and secure platform. Sign-up is simple and members can customize their news feed to their preferences and interests. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5cxQbobvw0

Engaging with MedCircle is a simple process using the web or a mobile app:

  1. Members visit www.medcircle.com, click on the sign-up button and fill in some brief information.
  2. Members can then select health topics of interest to receive verified health information in their personal feed.
  3. Members can also select from participating HCPs to directly receive health information from them.
  4. A member can invite friends, family members and loved ones to join his or her MedCircle and share health information.
  5. Members can search for local health resources, including healthcare providers, hospitals and special medical services.

MedCircle features third-party and original content including academic research, news articles, infographics and videos. Members regularly receive fresh, expert-verified content on their personal MedCircle feed. In addition, each healthcare provider can recommend content using MedCircle's "recommend" feature. Providers can also create original content to share with their circles. MedCircle's unique mix of content allows members to tailor their health information needs and take control of their health.
