2015 Digital Marketing Predictions Are In: Content Remains King

With 2015 just weeks away, have you had a moment to think about how the digital marketing landscape will take shape in the year ahead? Have you started to outline a plan for your company’s marketing and advertising expenditures? Well, here’s what you need to know:

Content will not be dethroned.

At least that’s according to seasoned digital marketing experts, who say that content will be more important than ever next year. With today’s buyers finding three pieces of content about a vendor for every one piece that marketing can publish or sales can deliver, it’s important that companies control the conversation about their brand. By delivering a steady flow of valuable information, organizations are able to directly communicate and engage with buyers.

Here’s what one of the digital marketing experts told Forbes about the “content is king” prediction: “Content will make it easy for new and existing customers to locate and use the best products and services they intend to look for in various channels (search, social, paid advertising, etc.),” says Venchito Tampon, content marketer and link building specialist for Digital Philippines. “Educating the target audience will now become the top selling point of many brands from whatever industry they are in.”

So, why will content marketing remain at the top of digital marketers’ lists in 2015? Let’s explore its chief advantages:

  • Leads to thought leadership: Customers want to follow those who blaze the trails, not those who blindly traverse those which others have forged. Once prospects have identified you as a thought leader, they’ll continue to engage with your brand and eventually (if everything goes right) become a customer. So how does a company become—and more importantly remain—a thought leader? By continually disseminating ideas that spearhead changes in the way people think, you can break through all of the noise that’s clogging the Web. However, one of the biggest challenges businesses face is simply the lack of time to produce engaging content containing such ideas—making that a priority in 2015 will be key.
  • Helps position brands at the top of search results: Google is one of the main concerns for marketers as its continuing changes have made it difficult for brands to keep up. Recent changes in the Google algorithm benefits those who invest in quality content creation. Through content marketing, brands can generate natural links and boost page views though SEO optimized content. “As Google continues to get better at connecting related search queries, long, in-depth content will become more of a trend,” Danny Tran, online marketing manager for QuinStreet, told Forbes.
  • Gets customers on board: How does a business compete against an army of competitors to establish first contact with a customer? After all, that’s the moment that creates a spark that can be nurtured into a long-term, mutually beneficial relationship. Well, successful content marketing helps potential customers feel as though they’re connected to a company. In fact, 70 percent of consumers say content marketing makes them feel closer to the sponsoring company, according to data from the Content Marketing Institute. Content engages them, entertains them and piques their curiosity. Once that happens, it empowers customers to follow through the buying cycle.

Experts agree that content marketing will continue to dominate well into the future. With 2014 coming to a close, if you don’t have content marketing on your wish-list, then you could be putting yourself at a competitive disadvantage.
