Emma Email Marketing Recruits Oracle Responsys Vice President

NASHVILLE --(Business Wire)--

Emma, a provider of best-in-class email marketing software and services, today announces the appointment of industry veteran Simon O'Day as its vice president of global. With more than 15 years of experience driving growth and innovation for marketing technology and service companies, O'Day will be based in Melbourne, Australia, and report to Emma's CEO, Clint Smith. O'Day joins Emma from Responsys (Oracle (News - Alert)) where he served as vice president, Asia Pacific.

As Emma's vice president of global, Mr. O'Day will oversee the company's international growth and expand the company's relationships with channel and product partners. He will also help guide Emma's product and service offerings aimed at larger clients within the company's well-established SMB footprint. More than 45,000 brands - including Mario Batali, Sylvan Learning Center, Firehouse Subs, Stanford University, and Bridgestone - already use Emma to power their marketing campaigns, utilizing Emma's robust platform and concierge-style account management and services. The hiring of O'Day comes on the heels of the company's significant investment in its product infrastructure and engineering teams and is part of an aggressive round of hiring that company leaders expect to increase Emma's overall headcount by 50 percent in the calendar year 2014.

"Simon is a rare talent," said Emma CEO Clint Smith. "The opportunity to have him join the Emma leadership team given his experience, industry knowledge and relationships across the globe, is a great moment for us at just the right time in the company's evolution. And the fact that Simon's based in Melbourne yet has strong ties to Nashville just makes the geographical flavor of this even more exciting."

Prior to Emma, O'Day served as vice president, Asia Pacific at Oracle Responsys. During his tenure with Responsys, O'Day was resonsible for assisting with Responsys' successful ascension as a top global provider of marketing services, going public and transitioning to Oracle Marketing Cloud after its $1.5 billion acquisition. He was also responsible for driving thought leadership, strategies and best practices surrounding marketing automation and cross-channel marketing. O'Day joined Responsys in January 2011 when his company, Eservices, was acquired by Responsys. Before the acquisition, O'Day served as the co-founder and managing director of Eservices, where he grew the business into the largest email marketing cloud software and services provider in APAC.

"After more than a decade of working with enterprise marketers such as Qantas, BMW, Vodafone (News - Alert), Orbitz and Paypal, this is a really unique opportunity to join a company like Emma that's really well situated 'south' of that traditional enterprise space but starting to do some pretty compelling things to make advanced marketing capabilities accessible to marketers regardless of company, team or list size," said O'Day. "The fact that Emma's also really nailed the art of taking great care of its customers and its employees made this the kind of place I just had to be a part of. I'm truly excited to help expand Emma's reach across the global marketing community."

Born in San Francisco, raised in the U.K. and Nashville and based in Melbourne (good luck placing that accent), Mr. O'Day was a co-founder of the successful Australian-based email marketing firm Eservices, which was acquired by Responsys in 2011. He went on to become VP of APAC for Responsys (Oracle) and has served as chairman of the ADMA Digital Council (Australia) and member of the DMA Email Council (US) and the email marketing community Only Influencers. He has a BA in History & Ecology from Emory University in Atlanta and has lived in Melbourne for the last 15 years with his wife and two children. In his spare time, Simon is known to play soccer reasonably well and surf reasonably poorly, though it would seem that surfing at all trumps not surfing any day of the week.
