Simply Hired Reports U.S. Job Listings Increased 1.61% in June

Simply Hired, the largest independent job search engine with properties in 24 countries and 12 languages, today released its monthly Simply Hired U.S. Employment Outlook with June 2015 data on national and local job opening trends. The new report shows that nationwide job listings grew by 1.61% between May 2015 and June 2015. This follows four consecutive months of gains: 1.81% in May 2015, 2.89% in April 2015, 1.38% in March 2015 and 2.47% in February 2015.

Looking across the nation, job inventory remains highest in healthcare. According to the Simply Hired U.S. Employment Outlook, approximately 1/3 of the top posting companies in June 2015 were healthcare-related. Healthcare positions most in demand include registered nurse, nurse practitioner, specialty nurses, administrative support and medical assistants.

The report also finds that hospitality and tourism roles accounted for 8.5% of all open jobs nationwide (421,000 listings) in June 2015. The greatest concentration of open jobs in hospitality and tourism are in Orlando, FL (16.73%), St. Louis, MO (15.99%), Miami-Ft. Lauderdale, FL (12.96%), Phoenix, AZ (11.34%) and Los Angeles, CA (News - Alert) (11.30%). The jobs in highest demand are food service workers and managers, housekeepers and cleaners, and hotel desk clerks.

"Job growth increased 1.61% in June, continuing the trend of positive gains in 2015," said James Beriker, President and CEO of Simply Hired. "Healthcare workers continue to be in highest demand, accounting for 1/3 of all open positions. Hospitality and tourism roles grew 4% in June 2015 and represent 8.5% of all U.S. job openings. We've seen a similar growth trend in past years, and expect hospitality and tourism job gains to continue throughout the summer and early fall with a peak in October."

The Simply Hired U.S. Employment Outlook also provides comprehensive data on job openings by U.S. metro. Findings include:

  • All major metros report gains. Job openings increased in all of the top 25 largest U.S. metros in June 2015. The largest month-over-month increases were seen in Boston, MA (5.61%), Pittsburgh, PA (5.17%) and Portland, OR (5.12%).
  • Metro spotlight: Portland, OR. Portland had 53,706 job listings in June 2015. Government, financial services and healthcare rank as the top 3 industries with the most job postings, followed by technology and manufacturing. Portland companies with the greatest number of open positions include Providence Health & Services (#1), Oregon.gov (#2), Kaiser Permanente (#3), Intel (#4) and Nike (#5).
