"Chris Smith is a proven marketing executive with an extensive track
record of success growing software start-ups and building engaged user
communities," said Michael Sklar, CEO of Graylog. "Chris has been
consulting with us on go-to-market strategies for expanding the Graylog
user base. We're excited to have him join our executive team as a
full-time membe."
Smith joins Graylog from Zenoss, a leading developer of open source and
commercial IT monitoring software, where he was Chief Marketing Officer
and oversaw the revival of its user community (zenoss.org), producing
double-digit growth in engagement levels and download volumes for the
first time in five years. Previously, he was Vice President of Product
and Partner Marketing for Quest Software, which was acquired by Dell (News - Alert). As
VP of Marketing and Product Management for Alert Logic, he repositioned
the regional MSSP into a first mover in the then emerging
security-as-a-service market. He has also held leadership positions with
Bindview, a provider of IT Security and Compliance software (acquired by
Symantec), Postini, a provider of email security services (acquired by
Google (News - Alert)), NetIQ, a vendor of systems and security management solutions
(acquired by AttachmateWRQ), PentaSafe Security Technologies, a security
management software vendor (acquired by NetIQ (News - Alert)), and BMC Software, a
provider of ebusiness systems management software. Smith holds a B.S. in
Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M University and an MBA from Rice
University.
"Everyone knows that unstructured machine data is valuable for helping
to detect and troubleshoot IT performance problems. However, most
companies haven't taken advantage of this rich source of information
because commercial log analysis software has always been very
expensive," said Chris Smith. "Graylog is using the open source business
model to transform the economics of log management technology, and is
well positioned to capture a large share of this market. It's a great
time to be an open source provider in this space, so I'm very excited
about joining the Graylog management team."
About Graylog Graylog provides service and support for the
open source Graylog solution which stores, searches, and analyzes
machine data collected from IT infrastructures and applications. The
company enables organizations, at a fraction of the cost, to improve IT
operations efficiency, security, and reduce the cost of IT. Graylog has
received funding from multiple investors and is based in Houston, Texas.
