Alexandria's Silverback Strategies Named One of Washingtonian's 2017 Great Places to Work

ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 15, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Silverback Strategies, a digital performance marketing agency located in Alexandria's historic Old Town, has been named to Washingtonian's exclusive 2017 list of Great Places to Work. Silverback is one of only 50 companies from the Washington, D.C. metro area to be included in the annual roundup of top workplaces.

"Our industry is driven by technology but our company is defined by our people," says Neil Welsh, president and founder of Silverback Strategies. "The ability to recruit and retain top tier talent is critical to the success of any marketing agency. This recognition is a real testament to the high-performance, tight-knit culture that our team has built at Silverback over the past 10 years."

Silverback Strategies specializes in SEO, Paid Search, Social, Content Marketing and Web analytics. The agency was also named to the 2015 and 2016 Inc. 5000 and was recognized as one of the Washington Business Journal's 2016 Best Places to Work.

Washingtonian's annual Great Places to Work list is, according to the publication, "open to any company or nonprofit as long as it has an office in the greater Washington area." The application process includes several in-depth questions about a company's industry, size, management structure, benefits, culture, educational opportunities, philanthropic efforts, wellness programs, employee turnover and more.

Over 8,000 employees from 200 companies completed anonymous surveys sharing their own impressions of day-to-day life in their workplace. Each response was reviewed by a panel of Washingtonian editors.

One-hundred percent of SIlverback employee surveys gave the agency a five-ou-of-five score in the following six categories:

  • Would you recommend this company as a great place to work?
  • I am challenged and interested in my work.
  • I am adequately thanked and recognized for my work.
  • The relationship between myself and my manager is mutually supportive.
  • My company is financially solid and healthy.
  • Management does a good job of building a sense of shared mission for the organization.

"Intellectual curiosity is critical to our culture," Mr. Welsh says. "We demand that our team tries new ideas and takes risks. What we learn is the foundation of future success."

The agency recorded a seven-out-of-seven score when surveyed employees were asked to rate the agency on work schedule flexibility.

"We don't sweat things like what you wear to work, what your title is or whether you got permission to try something new," Mr. Welsh says. "If you contribute to the team and clients are thrilled, then you are a star here — regardless of title or tenure."

Silverback Strategies offers employees excellent pay and benefits, including full medical benefits. The agency also offers dental, vision, 401(k) matching, paid maternity/paternity leave, gym memberships and limited tuition reimbursement. All Silverback employees are given the opportunity to travel to New York City, Mountain View, Calif., Boston, Mass. and other locales throughout the country for training, conferences and events with industry leaders like Google and Bing.

The company holds regular happy hours, lunch-and-learn sessions and sponsors out-of-the-office field trips to play dodgeball, bubble soccer and cornhole. Silverback is currently implementing a voluntary meditation program with on-site training at no cost to employees.

These perks have not come at the expense of company growth. Silverback enjoyed its best year in company history in 2016, creating over $4.6 million in revenue while working with well-known clients like Strayer University, PenFed and JK Moving Services.

Since Feb. 1, 2016, Silverback has added nine new employees, bringing the agency total to 25.
